Magnificent route with flat stretches, many fountains, streams and waterfalls along the way!
Route No. 470 starts at the Europahaus in Mayrhofen, from where it follows the road towards Peter-Habeler-Strasse and on to Kumbichl (above the Ahornbahn cable car) and Oberkumbichl. After passing through the village, the route begins with a demanding section. Past the toll hut, the asphalt road continues uphill. Trees on both sides provide pleasantly cool shade at the beginning of the route. Numerous natural springs line the route, offering the opportunity to refill your drink bottle. The alpine pastures begin after Gasthof Lacknerbrunn, where you are accompanied by the sound of cow bells as you continue onwards into the valley. After a short tunnel, you reach the top of the dam and the Wasserfall Mountain Guesthouse. From here, you will only encounter shuttle bus traffic and mountain farmers, as the road is completely closed to public traffic. A longer flat section follows, past the reservoir and on to the mouth of the stream. After a short ascent, you pass Stillupperhaus Guesthouse, before the final ascent along a well-maintained road to the Grüne-Wand-Hut, or the Kasseler Hut goods cable lift. The last few minutes of this section are rather steep, and therefore especially challenging. Take the same route back for your return journey.
